Purchase A Tuxedo Armed With Knowledge

By Victor B. Sancharo

There are several different styles of tuxedos on the market today from men to choose from. It is important that men wishing to purchase a tuxedo know and understand the differences between the different styles worn for different occasions requiring formal attire.

There are certain things which should be considered when making a tuxedo purchase. Although tuxedos are available for rentals on special occasions, it is not a bad idea to have one or two tuxedos available at the ready should a special occasion arise.

First, you will need to determine how frequent you will be wearing your tuxedo. This is because buying a tuxedo can be relatively expensive if you are looking for a good quality fabric that can last for a long time. It is also ideal to have one in your wardrobe than rent a tuxedo if you are often times invited to formal occasions.

Light colored tuxedos such as gray suits are best during the day time whereas black colored or midnight blue tuxedos are more suitable for night events. Always make sure that the tuxedo that you will be wearing on the upcoming event fits you nicely. Also make sure that there are no holes anywhere on the fabric.

For your tuxedo to last a lifetime you must maintain it properly. Inspect it for stains or anything else that you need to tend to before the big event. In addition, it is not a good idea to fold your tuxedo especially if it is made of a good quality fabric.

A tuxedo can be worn with a bow tie, or without, depending on individual style and comfort levels. Traditionally, a black bow-tie is worn with a tuxedo and is suitable for all tuxedos. There are two different types of bow-ties available--pre-tied which just clip around the neck, or ones which require actually being tied. The ones which require tying should be practiced in order to give it the proper appearance.

Taller men who are 6' or more look best in a double-breasted tuxedo while a single-breasted one usually fits any body type and looks good. Traditional double-breasted peak, double-breasted notch, and double-breasted shawl are the traditional styles of the double-breasted tuxedo that are available.

Finally, when wearing a tuxedo, you should choose between a vest or a cummerbund--never both at the same time. A cummerbund should be worn with the pleats facing upwards, and a muted color or pattern combination should be chosen for a more formal event.
