What To Take Care Of If You Want To Have Eye Laser Surgery

By Tina Grande

Eye surgery is not as easy as ophthalmologists want us to believe. In the first place, we believe our eyes as extremely sensitive. And we aren't wrong. Surprises may occur unexpectedly, that one really has to be very careful what doctor they select to have them cured.

PRK is the acronym for photo-refractive keratectomy. The surgery is mailny the removal of a superficial layer from the cornea, thus changing its shape. In this manner sight faults are corrected, permitting a glasses-free living for so many sufferers.

Lasik does pretty much the same as PRK does, but the portion removed from the cornea is not superficial, but the next layer under the surface. Then the superficial layer is put back in place, allowing the eye to cure itself.

Both procedures are done with excimer lasers. All lasers for Lasik or for any kind of medical procedure have to be FDA approved. This is to protect the individuals. This is a measure the government show they are concerned with the well-being of the people.

Vision defects can be fixed through any of the two types of eye surgery. The physician will observe each candidate individually, then indicating one operation or another. Every now and then, they may even settle that the subject should not be exposed to any kind of eye surgery at all.

Mistakes in precision surgery could be dangerous, as they may impair the person who suffered the surgery irreversibly. Deciding for the eye surgeon only after informing yourself very well will diminish the danger of meeting the not-so-specialist surgeon.

It has been noticed by some eye surgeons that patients need less recovery days after Lasik than after PRK. However, as nobody made the hard evidence of this fact yet, all we have to say is that there are cases in which one type of surgery is better than the other. This is why we need to go for specialist advice before doing anything.
